Designing within a larger campus fabric is one of the most rewarding challenges in higher education design. Paying reverence to buildings and landscapes that precede us – often by more than 100 years – is an important aspect of designing within university campuses. Conversely, CLH Design is very adept at taking old campus landscapes and updating them to appropriately respond to additions, restorations and new building introductions within that campus fabric.
From the community college perspective, it’s important to understand the larger community’s needs and how to integrate them into the design process when their funding and support is needed. Additionally, we address issues of campus identity, way finding and maintenance, as well as the introduction of new site programs, such as athletic facilities and public assembly areas, that may be shared with the surrounding community.
